Vetom story

About the manufacturer

The manufacturer and developer of Vetom products is the Russian “Research Center Scientific & Production Company”, a modern research and production complex in the Russian capital of science and technology, Koltsovo.

It consists of specially designed facilities with dedicated equipment for the production of probiotics, an accredited Biotechnology Control Testing Laboratory meeting international standards, and several scientific research laboratories.

History of Vetom

the beginnings

The story of the Vetom brand began during Germany’s invasion of Africa during the Second World War, when dysentery was rife among the soldiers serving there.

The African soldiers recovered from the infection fairly quickly and the Europeans were curious to see what cure they could find. It turned out that these soldiers were ingesting camel faeces. German microbiologists began to investigate the therapeutic effects of this method.

They finally concluded that the bacteria in the faeces were involved and they isolated the bacterial strain Bacillus subtillis (hay bacteria). To prevent infections, the technology was applied to Wehrmacht units on the battlefield.

the 1970s

Many years later, the project came to the attention of Soviet scientists during the development of the Soviet Union’s chemical and biochemical weapons defence project. The country’s microbiologists had to find bacteria and fungi that showed the strongest activity against the infectious bacterial microflora that can cause dysentery.

The aim was to create a universal formulation capable of protecting the military and the civilian population from disasters caused by biological weapons of unknown origin.

The research was carried out on the same strain of bacillus as the Wehrmacht had previously used, Bacillus subtillis. The bacillus culture was further developed, “taught” to produce human leukocyte interferon, a key protein of the immune system.

the 1990s

In the 1990s, at the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union, Soviet projects were taken over by private companies. In 1993, the research project was allowed to continue, under the supervision of the current research and production company, where practically everything was started from the beginning.

They organised an expedition to Zavyalosky Bor, one of Siberia’s most ecologically pristine forests, where they found organic bacterial samples with suitable properties, and then they grew entirely new cultures of microorganisms.

The new research centre created a new recombinant strain of Bacillus subtillis and at the same time, in 1995, a product based on it was launched and registered as a veterinary medicine in Russia. The new product was named VETOM.

the present

Science does not stand still. For 30 years, Vetom’s team of expert scientists has been successfully developing and perfecting the properties of probiotic bacterial strains, finding effective ways to prevent the spread and the harmful effects of infections. Demand for Vetom products increased during the coronavirus epidemic, and the company now provides VETOM health maintenance cures to around 70 million people.
The company employs more than 200 people, all activities are carried out under comprehensive and rigorous controls and follow European Standard (GMP) manufacturing practices.

The Vetom products, which contain biologically active ingredients, have been introduced as a new and innovative product in the dietary supplement market and are now successfully used in more than 20 countries around the world.
